The Murray River: One river, many lands

Director of Brand Action, Shane Strudwick is passionate about the Murray River. He spent 6 years photographing the great river and over 30,000 km to capture the story and essence of the river.

The Murray River book takes in from the Mountains, Steep Banks and River Red Gums, Outback and Mallee, Riverland, Golden Limestone Cliffs, Murraylands, Murray River, Lakes and Coorong.

He was then able to design a beautiful 172 page book, hand crafting every page and using the locally created Mallee Wooden font in the process. The book was originally self published the signed by ABC Books and HarperCollins and has gone on to be very successful. www.murrayriver.com.au/book

For more than 65 million years, the Murray River has held Australia’s soul within its long, winding banks. More than 2,520 kilometres long, it is our most important river. A truly national icon, it sits alongside the world’s great rivers – the Mississippi, Amazon and Nile. From ancient times, to pioneering days, to the environmental challenges of today – the Murray River has been at the centre of the story of our nation.

Shane Strudwick knows the Murray. Six years in the making, his book The Murray River: One river, many lands is a loving, passionate and contemporary tribute to Australia’s iconic and ancient river. Shane has travelled the length and breadth of the Murray to photograph, connect and share the story of life along the river – capturing the spirit and romance of its river towns and colonial architecture; its rich heritage; its legends and larrikins; its diverse beauty and sublime natural landscapes.

With unforgettable images and stories of people and places, it’s a tribute to the proud river that dominates our history, our headlines, and our future.
